Dear mom, 

My rebellious era was “quite typical”- 

As you would say.

Started when I turned 13, like many others

I knew everything, “just like everyone in that phase”. 

Always challenging what you said. 

It seemed like I was mad,  

Always with “an attitude” 

When I was just telling you what I thought; I wasn’t being rude. 

I wanted independence and autonomy, 

And make decisions for myself; I wanted you to be proud of me. 

It was my way of being independent and free, 

And testing the limits of my newfound freedom, to BE. 

You need to trust me mom; I know that you are right. 

I get that you are trying to protect me, but trust me, I will be fine in my fight. 

Perfect or imperfect, 

My rebellion is me deciding what I want.
